This time we would like to introduce “Kinokuni Nakatsuso” in Wakayama Prefecture.
It is inexpensive, comfortable, and comes with a meal and a bath. Such an inn is what everyone wants, isn’t it?
There is such a place. Here is a report on Kinokuni-Nakatsuso in central Wakayama Prefecture.

Outline of the inn
The inn is located in Hidakagawa-cho, Hidaka-gun, Wakayama Prefecture.
This inn is located in Wakayama Prefecture. Wakayama is often associated with marine leisure activities such as Marina City and playing at the sea, and many people think that once you leave Wakayama City, the capital of Wakayama Prefecture, there is nothing to do until Shirahama. The inn this time is located in such a mountainous and beautiful area. This inn is the perfect place to enjoy the rich nature surrounded by such mountains and beautiful rivers.
The price tag makes you look twice.
This is a story before we arrived, but the price is very reasonable. Without specific examples, it might sound like, “That’s just your imagination, isn’t it? So here’s an example (based on a one-night stay per adult on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays on November 1, 2022, at Jalan). This is not a one-night stay, but a one-night stay with two meals.
It is quite inexpensive, but if you are a seasoned traveler, the next question you may be asking yourself is, “What about the quality? The next thing you may be thinking is, “What is the quality like? It is not unreasonable to think that there must be some reason for the cheap price. But rest assured, there is no such unpleasantness at this inn. We will just tell you that it is the most cost-effective lodging.

Walking around the inn
We stayed at the annex this time.
This time we stayed in the annex, located right across the street from the main building where the front desk and cafeteria are located.
It looks like an ordinary one-room apartment, like a training facility or something, but it was recently renovated, and both the outside and inside are beautiful.
The rooms are like this, with two singles being the default style, or perhaps it is spacious enough for one person. The floors are also clean. And all rooms are equipped with wireless WIFI.
The bathroom is a little small. But
The bath is a little small for an accommodation facility, but I was able to soak in it comfortably since I was alone. It is said to be a hot spring.
It is only a 3-minute drive away, so you can choose according to your itinerary, or you may enjoy visiting both.
Now, when I think about where the money for two meals comes from after deducting the price of the inn, I can’t complain about bread and milk, but let’s go to the meal I’m looking forward to the most at the inn.
Even if you don’t think about the price, the dinner is satisfying enough!
※I was slightly distracted by the video, and we were in the middle of Game 6 of the Japan Series that day. Some photos are not available.
First of all, sashimi with a mix of seafood from the mountains and the sea.
Let’s toast with beer first.
Octopus, scallops, and crab legs with vinegared miso.
There are a total of six other small potted dishes, including grilled fish and dessert, along with the one above. I am pleased to see that all of them are carefully worked and still have just a hint of warmth.
Let’s switch to sake at this point. In case you are wondering, the price range for sake is so-called ryokan price, but they also provide tea, so feel free to enjoy non-alcoholic drinks as well.
The main dish is tempura, which is also freshly fried and served hot. Cold tempura is disappointing.
The rice dish is kamameshi, which takes about 30 minutes to cook. It is not fancy, but it is a taste that all Japanese people love.
I chose this restaurant because of the reasonable price, but the dishes did not make me feel that way at all. If I had some kind of authority, I would award the title of the best in terms of cost performance to this satisfying dinner.
Breakfast is not skimpy either!
Now that we have finished dinner with great satisfaction, how was breakfast? To sum up, we were also very satisfied.
Although there were no out-of-the-ordinary “specialty rice” items on the menu, the breakfast was a perfect Japanese breakfast in terms of content and volume.
The main dishes were grilled mackerel and omelette.
Personally, I don’t have the capacity to eat a huge amount of food in the morning, so the three small dishes, main dish, rice, and miso soup were honestly over my capacity.
The seasoning was also naturally very tasty.
This is all for this time.
Since I had originally planned an itinerary to enjoy the nature of central Wakayama Prefecture, with mountains, rivers, sea, and sky, I honestly had no problem with a simple overnight stay, rather I thought I would just stay in town and enjoy the pubs.
I wanted to travel, see the starry sky, bathe in the forest, and be healed by a babbling brook. All of them are here.
